Environment & Social Policy
At our core is the desire to protect and champion our home and its future. This is actioned in the choices we make and who we choose to work with and support.
All of our safaris are carbon neutral from the moment you land in Africa. You have the option to carbon neutral your international flight as well.
We aim for a zero-waste office. We do not use plastic or print unnecessarily and we recycle paper, glass, tin and food products.
We endeavour to work only with lodges with sound eco mission statements, including running off renewable energy, enforcing reduced plastic policies, wastewater reuse and low food waste and electric vehicles.
At Everwild’s mobile camps we source local food from sustainable, organic and fair-trade suppliers where possible.
For every safari booked we support a social or environmental impact organisation that we trust and have seen the benefits of first-hand. Our desire is to match your interests to one of these amazing projects whether focused on education, wildlife or ocean conservation, arts and culture or women’s empowerment. The organisations we support are as follows:
SHOFCO: supports girls education in Kibera, the slum in Nairobi where nearly a million people live. Shofco offers day visits to experience the work carried out at the Kibera High School for Girls. www.shofco.org
OceanSole: is a non-profit organisation that removes plastic waste from the oceans, coastlines and makes art to support marine conservation, whilst creating employment opportunities in high-impact communities. www.oceansoleonline.com
Go Granny Go!: is a grassroots initiative that helps struggling Grandma’s get on their feet. The one-day experience is a rare chance to see how dynamic pig and chicken farming programs are helping these inspirational grandmas navigate their way out of poverty. GoGrannyGo!
Empowering Mothers: is an uplifting day spent with an inspirational group of Kenyan women who are sewing, making candles, beading jewellery, studying small business and learning a range of other skills that will enable them to start their own small businesses. EmpoweringMothers
Reteti: rescues and releases orphaned and abandoned elephants, whilst creating much needed benefits to the local people that live alongside them. The orphaned elephants are cared for by the Samburu community, representing a new wave of thinking about wildlife and the environment, that goes beyond traditional conservation methods. www.reteti.org
Ewaso Lions: is a 100% African organisation dedicated to conserving lions and other large carnivores by promoting coexistence between people and wildlife. They work hand-in-hand with local communities to provide education, training and improved conservation practices that help people and wildlife. www.ewasolions.org
Book Bunk: engages with public library spaces as sites of cultural heritage and public memory. They are focused on the complete restoration and programming for old public libraries in Nairobi as well as the installation of new libraries into public spaces. They imagine that public libraries can be steered to become more than just repositories, acting as sites of knowledge production & shared experiences. Their collective work centres around literature, memory, public art spaces and the creative economy. www.bookbunk.org
